Montgomery County Councilmember Marc Elrich (At-Large) is a leader in promoting an innovative vision of a new mass transportation system for the county and metro region. The era of the Rapid Transit Vehicle (RTV) has arrived, and the system is being designed inclusively for every citizen.
Elrich opposes building M-83: “We do not need another environmentally disastrous road. For the cost of just that road, we could fund perhaps as much as a third of the RTV system.

“The Clarksburg community needs transportation alternatives, which is why the Transit Task Force’s proposed network adds a line east of 270 up Frederick Road (355) to Clarksburg in addition to the CCT (Corridor Cities Transitway). The Task Force only shows M-83 because were it ever built, it would include RTV, but the Task Force in no way encourages building M-83. In fact, the routing workgroup recommended deleting it from the maps.
“RTV from Gaithersburg to Clarksburg will be built much more quickly than M-83, providing relief much sooner,” says Elrich.
